Firefall gave me a lot of great opportunities to work with talent across the world of sci-fi. I was our story spokesman for several public outreach endeavors, including co-hosting a session on Twitch.TV at PAX-East. I gained some experience in extending our IP into other media delivery formats, having had the chance to lightly collaborate and edit the manga comic that Orson Scott Card was contracted to write.
The sci-fi vignettes provided below were initially written to help convey our vision to the designers and artists. The CEO tasked me with capturing the rich cultural tapestry of South America and fusing it with a very advanced technological society (terraforming, molecular printing, singularity). Later on, we released several of these stories to the public. Feedback from the CEO included: "Love the way you are weaving the characters and tech into the story! I feel you're doing great at making our world come alive...the reuse of the characters has turned out to be excellent at doing this. Just excited. :)" |
Short StoriesThese first 5 stories are set in 23rd century
Brazil, at various points-of-interest within the game. My narrative for Botanical Gardens inspired the Lead Designer to dedicate 3 weeks of production time to create a dynamic event based off the large carnivorous plant (not unlike a Sarlac-pit). Exhibit 1 - The Carnival of Dredge Exhibit 2 - Botanical Gardens Exhibit 3 - Moisture Farm Exhibit 4 - Hydrocore Exhibit 5 - Trans-Hub Command These next 4 stories exist in my own universes. The first is about the unsung heroes behind every damn headline. The next is a lighthearted romp in the feudal age. The final two are whimsical skulduggery on the High Seas.
Exhibit 6 - The League of Terminal Altruists Exhibit 7 - The Strangest of Days Exhibit 8 - Catalina (Pirate) #1 Exhibit 9 - Catalina (Pirate) #2 |
Audio RecordingsHere is a sample of flavor-rich collectible lore pieces that I wrote for Firefall. They were recorded by professional voice actors.
